Sushama Chitrakar is a prominent, young Patachitra artist from Pingla block in Paschim Medinipur district. She started learning the art at the age of five from her parents Rani Chitrakar and Shyam Sundar Chitrakar, well-known Patachitra artists. Sushma specialises in painting on social issues, alongside traditional themes. She paints on diverse items as well as traditional Patachitra. Sushama has participated in events across India and also been to Norway and Taiwan.
Sushama Chitrakar had participated in the Transform Festival of 2017, organized in Trondheim, Norway. She exhibited her works and presented her singing skills and earned appreciation from the attendees for both. She also conducted a workshop with children on the making of natural colours.
Patachitra artist Susama Chitrakar visited South Korea on September 27, 2019 to attend the Jeonju International Awards ceremony at Jeonju Hanbyuk Performance Theater, Jeonju.
