Mousumi Chitrakar has learnt Patachitra from her parents Jaba and Mantu Chitrakar – both noted artists of Naya, Pingla.  She paints traditional Pat and paints Patachitra in diversified items like saree, t-shirt, umbrella, bottle and contemporary issues like the Kanyashree Scheme of West Bengal Government, the Tsunami of 2004, 9/11 and ‘Nirbhaya’ rape case of 2012. She has exhibited her work and conducted workshops in Kolkata, Kerala, Delhi and Goa
