Anwar is a leading Patachitra artist from Naya, Pingla. He started painting Pat while he was in school under the guidance of his father Amar Chitrakar. He paints on themes of religion, environmental degradation, surrogate mother, issues relating to transgender and extra-marital affair. He has showcased his creations in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. He was awarded by the Rabindra Bharati University, the Tourism Department of Delhi and has won a National Award in 2006
Anwar had participated in the Namaste India Festival in Tokyo, Japan in 2012. The audience were spellbound by his painting and singing. He attended the festival with fellow-Patua from Naya Rahim Chitrakar and Kolkata-based artist and musician Manas Acharya. They stayed there from September 21st to October 11th of 2012.
